Back to the beach

Playa Grande - It was at least 100F this day and man the sand was HOT!

Just spent 2 days on one of the nicest, white sand beaches (Playa Grande) on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Stayed at the Las Palmas hotel, discovered it when we were on one of our beach walks when we were on the east coast last week.

The hotel itself is nice but dated, definitely needs some improvements and upgrades. Our room had 2 queen beds, TV, AC, mini fridge and a safe. Lots of rooms available when we arrived so we got our pick of the rooms with the best view of the property, beach and ocean. Checked in and went for lunch back at Maxi’s just down the road in Manzanillo.

When we got back, a couple with 2 small boys under the age of 5 were checking in right next door. And, as luck would have it, the boys had excellent vocal skills and were continuously demonstrating those amazing lungs by screaming...all the $#%ing time.  Even with our doors closed, it sounded like they were in our room. What fun!

So after listening to them and their parents yelling at them for about 30 minutes, we went back to the owner and asked her if we could switch rooms. Good thing they weren’t busy that day so we were able to move about 5 rooms away. Phew, beach vacation saved!

Good thing we moved rooms the day we did because our block of rooms got filled up by Friday afternoon. Lots more weekend business with Costa Ricans escaping the cities. A few more kids to deal with but none nearly as bad as the screaming Marco and Alejandro (yes we figured out their names after hearing Mom & Dad yell at them countless times)

We did get adopted by one of the hotel cats, a sweet natured calico. She curled up with us when ever we sat out on our lounge chairs and even stayed there when we were away or at the beach. Our very own “gato bravo”. Of course we had to bring her treats from breakfast (which was included with the room) so I’m sure that helped keep her interested in us...although she was far from starving for food or attention.

So we just relaxed and enjoyed the beach during the day, and treated ourselves to some good food and drink at a couple of nice restaurants at night. Almost perfect!
