Ready for the road

PA030030.jpg

So our house sitting job in Powassan comes to end this Friday and we’re anxious to get  back on the road. Just the other night Dave was saying he misses the ocean and I agree 100%!

House sitting here for 2 and half months turned out to be the perfect opportunity for us to tie up all our loose ends. …

Where are we now? Powassan!

House in Powassan.jpg

We’re in Powassan! What exotic country is that in you might ask? Well it’s in Canada, Northern Ontario just south of North Bay, to be exact. What are we doing there? We’re house sitting until around Thanksgiving in mid October.

Have we been to this part of the world before? …

New stuff!

New truck.jpg

Besides “slaving” at the cottage for Sue and Paul, Dave and I have been shopping.

In early May, we bought a new to us monster truck! A 1 ton dually, Ford Lariat 350 diesel with full crew cab, long box. and 5th wheel trailer hitch already mounted. It’s loud but it’s a beast and can pull just about anything!  …

Spring in Grand Bend, Ontario

Arrived at the cottage (owned by our friends Sue and Paul) on May 1st and we were busy, busy. Lots of cleaning, window washing and painting going on despite both of us being sick. Caught a nasty cold while we were in Waterloo at the end of April and although Dave got rid of his in a week, mine lasted most of May and ended up in bronchitis. …

Back in Canada

April 13 2010.jpg

Got back into Canada a couple of weeks ago and crossed the border at Port Huron/Sarnia with no problems. Customs didn’t even want to look in the trailer!

Since we’ve returned we’ve visited my Dad and helped him out around the house. Got in lots of practice window washing and believe it or not, I actually miss doing domestic chores like that and the sense of accomplishment when the job is done. …

Back in the USA

P4010022.jpg

Got back to Orlando on March 26th, to beautiful, warm weather so we hung out for a couple of days and got reorganized. Dave fixed the flat tire on the trailer and put on 3 more new, steel belted tires. Bye, bye to the flats...we hope!

Spent our first week back at a couple of place near or on the Florida Panhandle. …

Costa Rica

IMG 6844.JPG

Just in case you have this BLOG book marked, thought we would let you know that we set up a separate BLOG and ALBUMS to keep track of our first house sitting adventure in Costa Rica. We’ll be adding updates there, for the return trip in 2010.

Family and Fort Myers

IMG 6769.JPG

Just spent the last week and half in Fort Myers.

Getting there from the Keys was one of our worst travel days yet. You have to drive thru Homestead to get traveling west and lucky us, we hit a detour for their 61st annual Rodeo parade. It was just starting so we thought we could easily get around it but what a freaking nightmare. …

The Keys

P1290009.JPG

Spent almost 2 weeks in the keys and the weather was beautiful! FINALLY! Sunny and warm most of the time and very little rain.

First 6 days we stayed at a campground in Key Largo which had a big beautiful pool. Got up every morning and did laps for half an hour and other exercises in the pool for another 30 mins. …

The Everglades

IMG 6565.JPG

Did some relatively “rustic” camping at the Flamingo campground in the Everglades for a week. Rustic meaning no on site electric. water or sewer hookup but there was a central water hookup where you could fill your tanks and a central dump within in the park. …

They say it’s supposed to get warmer...

IMG 6281.JPG

....and at this point, any day that’s sunny and in the 60’s is going to feel like a heat wave. This morning even Miami had record breaking low’s of 36F. “Shattered” the old record of 37F back in 1927.

I know they aren’t used to the cold in Florida but it’s starting to get quite entertaining listening to all the news reports and interviews they’re doing with people on how they’re dealing with the “frigid” temperatures of right around freezing. …

Freezing Florida

IMG 6240.JPG

So today was record setting cold in Jupiter Florida (28 F) and in many other cities in the state. This morning there was frost on the truck and the water to the trailer was frozen!!! #$%%@! So glad we decided to come south to get away from cold Canadian climate. …

The Holidays in Cape Canaveral, Florida

IMG 6144.jpg

So it’s 2010 and we just spent the past 16 days at the Jetty park campground in Port Canaveral Florida where all the big cruise ships leave from. It’s right beside Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, all situated on the Atlantic coast.

We missed spending the holidays with all our family and friends back home but it was fun to celebrate Christmas in shorts on the beach. …

Some firsts..

IMG 6035.JPG

About 10 miles away from our 1st campground stay (this trip) in Florida, we blew our 1st ever trailer tire and never even noticed. A girl pulled up beside us and told us to pull over because she saw it happen. Nice! Luckily we were in a place where it was easy to get off the highway to a safe spot where Dave could easily and safely put on the spare. …

Man the south is cold!!!

IMG 5652.JPG

OK, so where’s the HEAT????? Today we walked on the beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia and then did the trolley tour of their historic district and @#$!%^! it was cold! I don’t think the high today even made it to 50F...it was only in the 40F’s. And tomorrow it’s supposed to stay cold and pour! …

Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina

IMG 5448.JPG

Just spent the past two weeks at Huntington Beach State Park near Murrells Inlet, SC. Initially only going to spend 6 nights but extended our stay a couple of times since we were enjoying it here so much.

Murrell’s inlet is just south of Myrtle Beach. It’s a smaller town, more laid back and less touristy than Myrtle Beach. …

House sitting in North Carolina

Blue & Maggie.JPG

Hi Y’all! We’re house sitting this weekend in Hillsborough, NC for a couple, Chris and Jeff, we just met last week via one of the house sittings sites we’ve signed up with.

This place is dog and cat HEAVEN for us! 2 dogs, 2 cats on a country property that anyone who knows us will be able to tell by the pictures that it reminds us a lot of our old farm. …

On the road again!

Bethpage resort, Urbanna VA.JPG

Hi everyone! Updating you from a tiny town on the Virginia east coast called Urbanna. Boy do they love their oysters here.....more on that later.

So we left Ontario right after Thanksgiving (got a late start that day) and crossed the border at Buffalo. Found a cheap ($10/night) place to camp at in Falconer, NY called Top-a-rise. …
