Poas Volcano

There is a crater down there! The Poas Volcano, not the best view!

Today we went to the Poas Volcano park, it’s not quite a 2 hour drive from San Jose so it’s a great day trip.

Sunny when we left, really nice drive through some very pretty parts of the country but the further up the mountain we got, the cloudier it got. Had some deja vu moments when we first looked into the crater and saw absolutely nothing! Just like what happened when we went to the Arenal Volcano when we were in Costa Rica for a week about 5 years ago.

But, we hung around for a while and we caught a break, the sun broke thru just long enough for us to see the crater, which was impressive! Must look fantastic on a perfectly clear day of which I’m sure are few and far between that high up.

Unfortunately, the La Paz Waterfall which is not far from the volcano, still isn’t open after the earthquake that hit there in January of this year. Too bad because the info online about it looks like it would have been a beautiful place to visit. With any luck it will be open before we leave in May and we can check it out.

Take a look at the ALBUM!
