The BADlands

THE BADLANDS I’d forgotten that so much of Alberta was given such a good name! :-)

So after Jasper we made our way back south down the Ice fields parkway and then headed east. We ended up in Rocky Mountain House AB for a couple of nights, camped out in Marina & Anthony’s backyard in the country. They’re the couple we met in White Salmon, Washington! Great to see you guys!! By the way, they both say “Hi” Ian & Chris! And oh ya Ian....,Marina does make a mean pulled pork sandwich, Alberta style! :-)

After that, headed for Drumheller AB, which is known for 2 things, Dinosaurs and the Hoodoos. In case you didn’t know, lots of dinosaur bones & Fossils have been found in this part of Canada.  The Royal Tyrrell Museum is the showcase for amazing dinosaur finds from the area and around the world. We spent an afternoon there and it was well worth the $10/each price of admission. We’d absolutely recommend this as a place to check out if you’re ever in this part of Southern AB.

The link above will tell you all about their exhibits (if you’re into old bones) and their pictures of what you can see at the museum are much better than mine, but I did take a few and thought I’d share some of the better ones with you in the ALBUM. Hard to get decent pics under glass and low light with little digital cameras!

The other big attraction in the BADlands around Drumheller is the Hoodoos. Easier to show you what they are vs. explain (see album)  Kinda cool, but Dave felt they were a bit disappointing, thought they’d be bigger. I think time and mother nature have been taking their tole on them. They have signs out not to sit on them but stupid tourists still do so they’re not helping.

The BADlands themselves are pretty unique scenery and quite a change from the mountains and miles and miles of flat prairies that we’re driving thru now.

Check out the ALBUM!
