Topsail Hill Preserve State Park - Florida

Wow was this a nice park....expensive at $38/night but we got our money’s worth. Hydro, water, sewer and cable hook ups at each site.

This is a fantastic park on the Florida Panhandle.

The park itself was spotless, they had staff out daily picking up debris on the sites and they used leaf blowers to clean the park roads. Really! Never seen that anywhere else before. The natural landscape was beautifully maintained and they added more in when more privacy was needed between sites etc. Bathrooms were spotless and they had a huge laundry building with 8 washers and dryers.

Then of course, the main attraction, the sand dunes and the beach...gorgeous! White sand for miles and the dunes, very impressive and great to see them being preserved. You weren’t allowed to walk on them so they created a huge boardwalk over them to get you to the ocean.  We actually managed to get in a few good days at the beach because it was SUNNY! But it was a bit cool so no swimming for me, Dave did get out Boogie boarding and play in the waves though.

The beaches on the panhandle are all pretty much like this. The other great thing is that the area is very bike friendly. There was a bike path, all along road 30A that you could go for miles on. Takes you through all the small towns on the beach, perfect for gawking at all the huge beach houses. Lots of places for sale but no big bargains that we could see...oh well! One day we biked 8 miles to the Grayton Beach state park to check it out. Nice park, but not in the same class as Topsail. It’s half the price and some of their water sites were really nice so might check it out on the way back. Their beach was similar to Topsail but again, not quite as nice.

Saw our first snake of the trip on the bike ride back from the beach. It was sunning itself on the pavement so we stopped to let it go across. It was a pretty good size, about 2-3 ft long and coppery colour, not sure what it was but there was no rattle. In any case, we gave it lots of space because who wants to take a chance. By the time I went for my camera, it was gone so no pic of it....too bad!

We’ll definitely come back to this park,,,,,when it’s warmer and less windy the beach would be so much more enjoyable.

Take a walk on the beach with us....check out the pics in the ALBUM!
