Some firsts..

SHREDDED TIRE - First blow out, luckily, no harm done

About 10 miles away from our 1st campground stay (this trip) in Florida, we blew our 1st ever trailer tire and never even noticed. A girl pulled up beside us and told us to pull over because she saw it happen. Nice! Luckily we were in a place where it was easy to get off the highway to a safe spot where Dave could easily and safely put on the spare. He was finished within 20 minutes and we were quickly back on our way to Fort Clinch State park on Amelia Island, Florida. Our 1st time camping in the Atlantic campground (20 sites just off the beach) but our 2nd time to the Park. We liked it so much when we were here last May (then we camped by the river), we had to come back. It’s our 1st repeat stay.

There’s a LONG fishing pier here and we spent some time talking to a local about what he was catching and what equipment he used to do it. We’d already decided that since we were going to be in Florida for at least 6 weeks, we’d try catching our own dinner. So, we headed down to the docks and got our 1st fishing licenses ever, at the local fish market. Then over to Walmart (where else?) to get our fishing equipment. So we’re geared up and now ready to fish.

Managed to get in one amazing beach day. Dec 15th was the hottest day yet, a record setting high of 84F and SUNNY! My god does that make people happy, us included! Spent the day, soaking up the rays on the beach. Saw our 1st submarine....yes a sub! Apparently they frequently get escorted to and from the local navy base in the channel right in front of the park’s beach.

Tried surf fishing for the 1st time. New gear is pretty easy to use but no beginner’s luck. Dave & B.A. zero - Fish 1.

Next day, back to freaking cold reality! High of only 61F, cloudy and really windy. Still walked on the beach and tried fishing off the pier for the 1st time. That wasn’t exactly fun, cold windy and we were the only fools on the pier.  No luck, only caught a chill! Fish now ahead 2 to 0.

Repeated the pier fishing experience last day (sunny but still freaking windy and cold!) at the park and our luck continues to suck. Us 0 - Fish 3.

Check out the pictures from this stay. Fort Clinch is a great state park, highly recommend it. if you’re interested, here’s some different  pics from our stay in May 2009 when it was sooooo much warmer!
