House sitting back in the old neighbourhood

For the past 2 weeks we’ve been house and cat sitting for our friends, Terry & Tracey from Cambridge, ON. They headed out west for a “relaxing” vacation, Tracey competed in the Iron Man in Idaho. That’s a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike followed by a 26.2 run (a full marathon). Hurts me to even think about doing that.

Despite her pre race injuries, Tracey still managed to finish in 11 hours, 37 minutes and 42 seconds, She placed 9th in her age class (women). WOW! You’ve got grit girl, don’t know how you do what you do! They get back tomorrow and I’m sure they’ve had a great time windsurfing in the Columbia Gorge and hiking in the mountains in Washington and Oregon. I think they’ll need a vacation from their vacation!

So while they’ve been busy being insanely active, Dave and I have had a BUSY social schedule visiting with family and friends in the KW area. Out of 17 days here, we’ve had somewhere to be 10 of those nights/days. Thanks to ALL of you (you know who you are!) for the great meals, drinks and conversations. We’ve had a great time catching up with y’all.

In order to work off all the food and booze our friends have fed us, we joined the Cambridge Y. We went just about every day...no excuse not to except when we needed a day off to recover from an especially hard workout.

Speaking of hard workouts, I did something yesterday that I’ve never done before...kayaked! My good friend Caroline convinced me to kayak the Nith river with her  (she’s done it quite a few times before). We put in at Canning, ON and almost 4 hours later, we got out in Paris, ON. Perfect for a rookie kayaker right???  It’s only a 10 min drive between the 2 towns but the river is far from straight. What an awesome day, the weather was VERY hot and not a cloud in the sky. Great scenery, good work out, lots of girl talk and lots of laughs. God did the beer we sucked down at a patio in Paris taste GOOD! Slept like a baby last night. I can’t even imagine how tired Tracey was after close to 12 hours of continuous exercise!

But this morning....man, when I got up felt like I’d been run over by a truck. It sucks to be 51 sometimes you know! My ass is killing me from the lunges with a 20 lb barbell I did on Thursday before I even knew I was going to kayak and from the waist up, I’m stiff from the 4 hr. kayak yesterday. That means that tomorrow, my bod will be killing me from the waist up and my ass will be fine. By Monday I should be back to “normal” and pain free....I can only hope! But it was all worth it, I’d kayak again in a heart beat!

Check out the pics of the cats and of my kayaking adventure.
