The ranger at the visitors centre recommended we do this hike because it’s where you see the sandstone spires the area is named for. Round trip it was 10 miles, a challenging day hike for sure! Check out the BLOG!

Started out on a red dirt path from the campground trailhead.

Much of the trail was over large expanses of slick rock. You really have to pay attention to where the cairn markers (piles of rock) are.

It was baking hot, mid day with temps in the high 90s but we’re actually getting used to the heat now.

Made it, now only 4.9 miles to get back to the trail head

He dared me to crawl through this but no way!

Since there was no obvious trail to follow on the rock you had to pay close attention to where you were going. It struck us that it would be incredibly easy to get lost out here.

After a challenging 5.5 hour hike in the heat we were very happy to get back to the trail head.
